At a time of great and unpredictable changes in the latter half of the 20 Century and early 21 Century, Queen Elizabeth has risen to the challenges and keep on being a reference for the British people. She ruled over a country in imperial retreat and gradual decline, followed by a political, economic and military re-birth in the last quarter of the last century. Despite some setbacks and crises, she managed to keep the royal family together and its prestige intact.

Perhaps one of the greatest tributes one can give
to Elizabeth II is her global recognition. Whenever and wherever one mentions
the Queen, it is Elizabeth one’s talking about. In an era of powerless kings
and queen Elizabeth II has, in her own way, honoured the name and the crown of
her ancestor from whom she inherited the name: the great Elizabeth I.

Thank you for your kind tribute to Queen Elizabeth II. As Great Britain enters an extended weekend of jubilee celebrations with The Union Flag flying high around the nation, our British weather typically reflects the 60 year reign of The Queen – mixed, grey at times with squally rain showers and intermittent bursts of sunshine. Whilst the weather may threaten some of the planned celebrations up and down the land, I suspect the determination and forbearance of the British people will overcome this minor obstacle to our revelry as we have done so many, many times in our history.
The tireless work Her Majesty and her Prince Consort, Philip, have undertaken during her extensive reign with Philip at her side, has been an outstanding example of commitment to the promises she made to God, to serve her peoples at the time of her accession to the throne. The dignity and fortitude she has shown at times of great national and personal hardship stand as an example to us all. I for one am proud to acknowledge her great achievements at this time, and wish Her Majesty many more years of service to this wonderful, green and pleasant land and the countries she continues to serve as our monarch. After all, which one of us will still be working at the very respectable age of 86.

“Followed by a political, economic and military re-birth in the last quarter of the last century.” Sorry I have witnessed the opposite, at least for the first two points.
If anything, Elizabeth II stands for common values, allowing the people to project themselves onto an idealized leader, even if she is on the throne because of heredity alone.
Which value has been most diligently expressed by this queen? Probably it is to be of service to others,
Even if unpaid Jubilee stewards were left to sleep under London Bridge, without food, in the cold.
The unpaid labour was brought in as part of the Government's Work Programme, under which unemployed jobseekers must take up placements in order to continue receiving benefits.
These are not the jobs that will take Britain out of recession and improve people's living standards."
Well, Britannia does not rule the world any more!
