At a time of great and unpredictable changes in the latter half of the 20 Century and early 21 Century, Queen Elizabeth has risen to the challenges and keep on being a reference for the British people. She ruled over a country in imperial retreat and gradual decline, followed by a political, economic and military re-birth in the last quarter of the last century. Despite some setbacks and crises, she managed to keep the royal family together and its prestige intact.

to Elizabeth II is her global recognition. Whenever and wherever one mentions
the Queen, it is Elizabeth one’s talking about. In an era of powerless kings
and queen Elizabeth II has, in her own way, honoured the name and the crown of
her ancestor from whom she inherited the name: the great Elizabeth I.
